We often picture the Holy spirit as a dove...soft, white and peaceful.

And it absolutely is.

But while creating this piece, I couldn’t stop thinking about the way the Bible also depicts the Holy Spirit as fire. And that inspired a new visual for this piece. 

The 11X17 inch poster...Serpents & Doves brings together the wisdom of the serpent, the innocence of the dove, and the fire that represents the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. 

Originally hand-painted on a skateboard deck, the piece became an exploration of contrasts—wisdom and innocence, gentleness and power, peace and fire.

LIMITED EDITION OF 55

Only 55 prints will be produced in this edition.

Each print will be personally signed and individually numbered 1–55 by artist Joel Santana.

Once all 55 are gone, this edition is closed.

ABOUT THE PRINT

The print edition is a digital recreation of the original hand-painted skateboard artwork, adapted specifically for the 11X17 inch poster format.

Because portions of the original painting extend beyond the edges of the skateboard deck, I’m completing those cropped areas for the print edition. The original composition, characters, colors and artwork remain intact—the print simply reveals a slightly expanded version of the image created to work beautifully as a complete rectangular piece.

Think of it as the full Serpents & Doves image beyond the edges of the original deck. Essentially it's the finished illustration without being cropped like on the skateboard.
